THE ULTIMATE BALI GUIDE- WHERE TO EAT AND STAY

January 22, 2018

So Bali happened twice in 2017 and our relationship is by no means over or even begun!  I've pulled together my favourites!  Places to stay and eat Bali If you're traveling there soon or even thinking about it, hit me up!  I'd love to hear places you've been, planning on visiting, good or bad!

Where to eat

Copper Kitchen & Bar

Based at Bisma Eight in Ubud, Copper Kitchen & Bar is the perfect mix of contemporary fine dining with a laid back relaxed attitude. Starting the day with the breakfast of dreams (think banana pancakes, waffles, granola, pastries, avocado, eggs, fresh fruit- the list is endless) guaranteed to fill any belly then on to afternoon tea finishing the day with a rooftop dinner watching the stars.  The food is amazing, the venue stunning and the staff charming, make sure you check it out!

Kynd Community

Plant based heaven in Seminyak. Hundreds of people flock to Kynd daily to sample both the amazing plant based food and the instagrammable surroundings (you'd be hard done not to spot that pink wall in hundreds of posts). I recommend the smoothie bowls, a mix mix of blended fruit, granola, seeds and coconut water topped with fresh fruit they are perfect on a scorching day and the spoons are amazing!

Alchemy

A short walk from the centre of Ubud where if you didn't know where it was you'd miss it, sits Alchemy. Bali's first 100% raw vegan cafe (self proclaimed). Serving everything from breakfasts and juices to homemade mylks and yummy desserts.  Everything is prepared fresh on site and also available to take away!  Not only do they serve amazing food but they also have an onsite shop with all sorts of potions and elixirs, malas jewellery and loads more.  It's a beautiful space to just sit and be (and of course eat!)

The Slow

Slap bang in the centre of Canguu is The Slow.  The space is perfect for a bite to eat, a coffee with friends or just a really cool place to hang and take it all in. The food matches the vibe, laid back and cool.  Top tip! Head there during the day for the day menu and order everything from the small plate and sides menu!.  They come in bite size portions and are perfect for nibbles and snacks to share (or eat alone if you don't share food like me!)

Where to stay

The Akmani Legian

If you love to party and want the more lively side of Bali then head to Kuta and stay at The Akmani Legian.  Nestled away on one of the busiest roads in the area stands the hotel.  Step outside and it's crazy!  Shopping  bars, restaurants, beaches but step inside the grounds of the hotel and you would never know what sits outside.  There is no traffic noise, no hustle and bustle and no nod Bali's party place! Top tip!  Head upstairs to the rooftop pool, not only is it stunning but there is a swim up pool bar and the most stunning sunsets in the area! The hotel has all the facilities you need from a private well equipped gym, 2 restaurants, room service and its very own spa. Opt for a ground floor room overlooking the pool and you get your own decking area with a day bed perfect for reading or relaxing!

Bisma Eight

Words struggle to describe Bisma Eight and you really do have to experience it to fully appreciate what the team there have managed to achieve.  Set in Ubud, away from the main streets lies paradise.  Step inside, sip your welcome drink and prepare to have everything thought of for you before you've even thought it! Top tip!  Make sure you experience the afternoon tea.  A beautiful tray of sandwiches, cakes, nibbles and drinks it's the perfect snack for when you're peckish after the abundant breakfast but not ready for a full meal! And the rooms..... opt for a forest suite and every morning you wake up in the jungle.  As the sun rises and the wildlife starts to wake up you truly feel like you are with nature (make sure you keep the curtains open at night to be woken up in the most amazing way)

Desa Seni

If you want yoga and you want authentic Balinese accommodation then Desa Seni is perfect for you. Click here to read my full post and review.  In a nutshell there is yoga, there are stunning grounds and 80% of all the produce is home grown.  The restaurant is small and rustic but the food that is produced there is second to none. If you fancy a more intimate dining experience then room service will deliver your meal to your porch of your wooden home and you can enjoy your food overlooking the grounds listening to the wildlife (the frog song is amazing!).  There are numerous yoga classes happening throughout the day and evening which you can join in, alternatively you can relax on the daybeds reserved exclusively for Desa Seni guests and enjoy the beautiful pool. Top tip!  Make sure you book a massage at the spa, ultimate luxury yet an authentic Balinese experience

Sukhavati

Sukhavati is an Ayurvedic retreat nestled in the quiet streets of Mengwi.  The accommodation and estates are quite literally breathtaking (to see more pictures and to read about my experience at Sukhavati click here). The Sukhavati estate houses eight private villas each with their own unique qualities.  Mine had a private pool, cabana, balcony, outdoor bathroom and four poster bed to scratch the surface of the luxury! Stay at Sukhavati if you want to escape the real world and want to be waited on hand and foot in luxury for a few days.  An Ayurvedic doctor will consult with you when you arrive and your meals, treatments and itinerary are delivered to you daily.  Top tip!  The staff at Sukhavati are amazing, if there is anything you aren't sure of or need then ask!  I got bitten quite badly by ants (I think!) at a previous hotel and they concocted me a completely natural treatment to soothe and fix me and even send me away with some when I left, they really do go the extra mile.

Desa Visesa

My second Ubud recommendation is Desa Visesa. A short ride away from central Ubud lies this cultural resort.  Set in more than 2 hectares and driven towards showing it's guests an authentic Balinese lifestyle, this hotel is perfect if you are looking to learn more about permaculture in Bali and get involved!  The grounds have stunning walks, jungle views and fresh running streams  You can quite easily lose yourself for a few hours exploring.  Top tip!  Make sure you book a massage in a cave.  Nestled by the water are 5 natural caves where you can have an exclusive signature treatment and it's well worth it!  The outdoor gym over looking the rice paddies is a nice touch for a sweaty workout and the rooms have bath menus where someone will draw and tailor you your very own bath (yes really!) Click here to read more about when I visited.

So there we go.  My Bali favourites.  I have loads more tips and recommendations so please message me if you wanted to know something or somewhere specific!  I'd also love you to share your Bali gems with me asI'm sure I'll be returning in the not too distant future!
