BALI CALLING

April 2, 2017

When the words "do you want to go to Bali?" were mentioned I didn't need much convincing to pack my bags!. Finally, the honeymoon (albeit 3 years late!) and a chance to visit the spiritual mecca of the East.  The opportunity to teach yoga in paradise was the final excuse needed to send the kids packing to the grandparents and for me and Rob to hop on a plane to spend the week at Bisma Eight in Ubud.

I've been lacking a bit recently in inspiration, and if I'm completely honest with you, I felt like I needed to go somewhere to 'find myself'.  Yes I know it sounds completely cliche - yoga; eat, pray, love etc. but the past 6 months have been such a whirlwind I think I just needed time to download everything and put it into perspective so I can move forwards with a clear vision, make sense?....

Anyway... The agenda for the week was R & R.  Honeymoon, relax without kids, eat, do yoga and explore. As a newbie to Bali and having never ventured this far East I couldn't wait to immerse myself in the culture and learn more about the island, sample the food and embrace the Bali way of life.

Waking up on the first morning to the jungle and the sunshine was just the beginning of what was to come.  The immediate calmness that washes over you.  The only sounds are the birds and you can almost taste the calmness.  I knew from this second, Bali was going to be a special place.

There's a serenity and calmness about everyone you meet.  Whether it's because the locals are that laid back and constantly on 'Bali time' (read as about 30 minutes late for everything!!) or the fact that they live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, everyone is smiling and happy and completely content, something I 100% need to try and incorporate into my daily life!

One of my goals this year is to step way outside my comfort zone, so I jumped at the opportunity to teach yoga in Bali.  I sampled a few of the hotel's classes before teaching myself, just to see if Eastern teachings were different to mine.  Oh my! how different!! Alignment didn't matter, the perfect breath during the flow didn't matter.  What mattered was being present and showing up.  Another lesson learned and something I have since incorporated into my own teaching and practice.

Another must during my trip was to visit the temples, the real spiritual calling of Bali, so I hired a guide and drove the hour long journey to Tampaksiring, the Holy Spring Water Temple via the rice fields of Tegalalang.  They are that stunning, that we had to pull over on the roadside to take it all in. Famous for the beautiful rice paddies, Tegalalang is a must see, even if you just stop to take a photo!

At the temples I wanted to immerse myself in the feeling so I didn't really take any pictures or footage as I felt it was disrespectful.  Even though everyone is welcome and photos are ok for personal reasons I just wanted to be.  From the beautiful shrines to the hundreds of offerings taken by the people of Bali to worship, once again this place had the peace and serenity I was craving and cemented the fact that things needed to change in my life for me to progress personally, spiritually and career wise.

In all honesty I'm still downloading my experience.  I know it's changed me but I still can't pinpoint exactly how, and I guess that's good in a way because it keeps it present and keeps Bali alive for me.

I know I need to return, and while I'm not sure when or which part of Bali, I know it's soon, and I know it will be just as magical!

Part 2 coming soon.....my review of Bisma Eight, the stunning resort we stayed at.  And I mean STUNNING!

As always I love to hear from you. Have you ever visited anywhere that changed your life?...drop me a comment below and let me know where.
